The National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMCN) has called on the Federal Government to come to its aid to enhance postgraduate medical education in Nigeria as the N20, 000, 000 amount budgeted for the college this year has not been released.

Professor Rasheed Arogundade, college president, NPMCN, at the 2015 pre-convocation press conference of the medical college in Lagos today, said in order to create room to accommodate all the departments of the college, there is need to complete all the buildings in the master plan, adding that only two out of the four blocks in the master plan have been fully built.
Arogundade also urged the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETF) to provide the intervention fund for the construction of the proposed clinical skills and simulation laboratory.
He said the facility is needed to train medical and dental specialists of the highest quality, competence and dedication in line with global best practices in postgraduate medical education.
Speaking on the dissolution of all federal parastatals, agencies and institutions, the college president urged the federal government to exempt the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
He said the council’s functions are strictly professional and regulatory in nature including medical education, accreditation of professional institutions, maintenance of standards, enforcement of discipline and also monitoring of health institutions that are training doctors all over the country among others.
