David de Gea Vows to 'Work Hard' for Manchester United This Season

Spain v Slovakia - UEFA EURO 2016 Qualifier
The 24-year-old played 90 minutes as the defending European champions won to stay top of their group.
He is yet to turn out for United this season and hasn't played a competitive game for his club since May, but de Gea has now proved his head is in the right place.

David de Gea has vowed to work hard for Manchester United this season after appearing for Spain in a Euro 2016 qualifier on Tuesday night. Despite the collapse of his proposed move to Real Madrid, the star goalkeeper maintains he is "relaxed" about his immediate future.

Answering media questions after the game in Macedonia, de Gea explained, "Yes I'm happy. I am relaxed about things and I will go on working hard and improving, and enjoying my football."

"I felt good out there. I really wanted to play the game," he said. "Now I have to keep working hard and let's see if I have the same luck with my club."

He went on to add, "We got the three points with a good goal from Juan Mata. I am just happy to have played. I wanted to play. I am very grateful to my team-mates who have been superb, and to the manager (Vicente del Bosque)."

If de Gea does get the nod from United boss Louis van Gaal to face fierce rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday evening it will mean dropping Sergio Romero to the bench.

The Argentine, who arrived on a free transfer from Sampdoria in the summer, has kept goal in each of United six games in all competitions this season. The 28-year-old has been given mixed reviews during that time, though, and was less than convincing as his team fell to Swansea prior to the international break.

Romero is aware of the competition he now faces, having recently said, "Let me tell you, I don't think that the goalkeeper spot in United is already mine. I do know that I have a huge support from van Gaal and his staff."
