The 24-year-old played 90
minutes as the defending European champions won to stay top of their
group.
David de Gea has vowed to work hard for Manchester United this season after appearing for Spain in a Euro 2016 qualifier on Tuesday night. Despite the collapse of his proposed move to Real Madrid, the star goalkeeper maintains he is "relaxed" about his immediate future.
Answering media questions
after the game in Macedonia, de Gea explained, "Yes I'm happy. I am
relaxed about things and I will go on working hard and improving, and
enjoying my football."
He went on to add, "We got the three points with a good goal from Juan Mata. I am just happy to have played. I wanted to play. I am very grateful to my team-mates who have been superb, and to the manager (Vicente del Bosque)."
If
de Gea does get the nod from United boss Louis van Gaal to face fierce
rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday evening it will mean
dropping Sergio Romero to the bench.
Romero is aware of the competition he now faces, having recently said,
"Let me tell you, I don't think that the goalkeeper spot in United is
already mine. I do know that I have a huge support from van Gaal and his
staff."
